Whilst often considered as an eclectic artist, with fingers in many pies, the reality is that for many years Christian Rizzo has been ploughing the same furrow. He is an artist who writes in gestures: each is repeated incessantly, taking on more and more importance, like those of a craftsman and which leave their mark in many different domains. Dance is just one of these fields, it is the central theme, around which the others gravitate.
If you were to find yourself walking in the street beside Christian Rizzo, you would find yourself, at regular intervals, having to wait while he pauses to take in the thousands of colourful details and remarkable shapes that capture his attention. With a never-ending hunger, he intuitively feeds on all that surrounds him. His hands and eyes act as motors for each movement. He manipulates things, constructs something and then takes a step back, closing one eye like a child pretending to be a painter. When he enters a studio, he sets to work immediately, reorganising everything and taking over the space and context surrounding him.
