From the outside, the palatial visage of Copenhagen’s Royal Theatre seems calm – even stately – with an elegant façade that seems to match the classic artforms that appear on the stages inside. The Royal Opera finds its home here, along with an acclaimed opera school. The Royal Theatre, which presents dramatic performances, also plays host to classical concerts of the Royal Danish Orchestra. It is Det Kongelige Teater in its native Danish, that the students of the Royal Danish Ballet School thrive.

Uncommon education

What makes the school unique is its close relationship with the Ballet company. Housed together in the Royal Theatre, they share the same resources and staff. It is this proximity and daily interaction that allows students access to the inner workings of a ballet company. They see professional dancers every day, at rehearsal, in performances and in casual settings. Several of the school’s teachers are also soloists, and the students regularly perform with the Royal Ballet.
