Roberto Zappalà zeigt «Romeo e Giulietta / La Sfocatura dei corpi»
Scenario Pubblico is a very special venue in the Italian contemporary dance landscape: in Catania, the heart of Sicily, it is a private space built and run by Roberto Zappalà, comprising a house with rehearsal studios and a stage for performances, where he presents his own productions and accommodates other artists and companies.
This is where Zappalà recently premiered the last part of his “Corpi incompiuti” (unfinished bodies) project, begun in 2003, featuring “24 Preludes, la pace dei sensi” (peace of the senses) and “Sfocatura dei corpi” (bodies obscured), both with a very
talented Singaporean male dancer, Wei Meng Poon, for whom he had previously created “1.incompiuto,” an incisive solo in the middle of a hundred pairs of shoes, under a kind of violent shower of light. A strong, graphic performance with not little irony, the performer appears all wrapped in plastic film with the inscription “chicken” to the sound of the “Death of the Swan” motif.
There is a visible link between this solo and Romeo e Giulietta / La sfocatura dei corpi, a duo with Wei Meng Poon and blond Daniela Bendini, who shows the same kind of energy and commitment as her partner. The piece gets its title ...
