Miyako Yoshida

Miyako Yoshida is one of the most popular principal ballerinas of the Royal Ballet in London of
recent years. Joining the Royal Ballet in 1995, she danced nearly all the major classical roles, including Odette/Odile, Aurora, Juliet, Giselle, Kitri and many others. She began her training in Tokyo at the age of nine and was awarded the Prix de Lausanne as a promising young dancer at the Lausanne International Concours in 1983, which gave her the opportunity to study at the Royal Ballet School under the excellent tutorship of Sir Peter Wright.

Miyako Yoshida subsequently danced for the Sadler's Wells Royal Ballet (now the Birmingham Royal Ballet) and was promoted to principal ballerina in 1988. In 2004, she was appointed UNESCO Artist for Peace. After 10 years at the Royal Ballet, Miyako Yoshida decided to make a break and set the points for a new future. At the start of the 2006/2007 season, Yoshida joined the K Ballet Company, led by Tetsuya Kumakawa, a former colleague at the Royal Ballet.
