you are a dance historian and critic here in Zagreb. Could you describe what is happening with the dance centre that the Zagreb authorities promised to the dance community here? I was told that the city of Zagreb had bought an abandoned movie theatre in order to adapt it into a new dance centre. But construction work has been going on for more than four years now. Well, there is no official information about what is going on and because of that, the situation is so scary.
However, we do know that it has been slowed down by some unexpected construction problems; namely, the discovery that the building doesn’t have a foundation at all.
There are fears that once it is finished it might be given to something other than the dance scene. Yes, because such things have happened already. For example, the City bought another movie theatre which was planned to become a home for many independent theatre groups but in the end only one of them got it. However, there is an initiative within the dance scene itself that is organized within UPUH and PULS, helping us to act in a more organized way.
