Kerstin Kussmaul
Kerstin Kussmaul works as a movement teacher and choreographer/improviser. She received her M.A. at the Mozarteum Salzburg and studied Somatic Movement & Participatory Arts in Berkeley. She co-hosts an international series for contact improvisation research. From 2002 to 2005 she was artistic co-coordinator for ImPulsTanz workshops & research, in 2008 she will curate the training program for the new K3 – Zentrum für Choreographie / Tanzplan at Kampnagel in Hamburg. Home base is Vienna, she teaches in Austria, surrounding countries and the US.
What do you teach? To increase physical and creative options is the basic value in my work, and to find solutions through developing a physical intelligence and idiosyncrasy. The first relationship in dancing, and in life, is the relationship of the self to gravity. There is no way not to be involved in this dynamic dialogue which can serve as a model for all kinds of relationships in dancing.
What do you expect from your students? To trust in a process with an unknown outcome.
