Apostolia Papadamaki gastiert mit «Superlux»
This is a piece for two dancers, soft music and an audience, by the Quasi Stellar Dance Company led by Apostolia Papadamaki – a former member of the collectively functioning Sine qua Non. Audience is expressly required for its direct involvement in the show: the dancers walk through the rows of seats, kissing and greeting the spectators in the fully-lit room.
“Superlux” does not stress virtuosity, but performance. It is therefore a mistake to feature a male dancer who, once past his prime, has not become a performer.
Therefore, in a piece which does not excel movement-wise (far from it), the protagonist’s performative skill is badly missed. To make matters worse, the choreographer does not seem to not have any idea of how to structure (or de-structure) a piece. Many will disagree, and I have long been a lone wolf with this school of thought, but unless someone is an artistic “genius” with a strong sense of style (which all sounds mystical and creepy), then he/she probably falls into the category of people in need of good training in his/her art, as Giorgio de Chirico once suggested in his writings.
