Injection To Dance
230 dance students (representing 36 nationalities) are enrolled at the Rotterdam High School of Music and Dance. Daily they transform the eighth and ninth floor of the building into a great big blending machine of personal ambitions, perspectives and physical skills. These students are a living proof of the endless possibilities contained in the arts and, more importantly, they seem to know it. For their Swiss-born director, Samuel Wuersten, this connection between knowing and living is the main core of his ambitions.
He fervently believes that his department has the potential to become the best professional dance educator in Europe. Part of his positive ideology is to invite as many guest teachers as possible, and possibly the best. Like William Forsythe in October 2003.
Samuel Wuersten immediately embraced Forsythe’s offer to inject the academy with the results of twenty years’ research at Frankfurt and elsewhere. Wuersten suggested that the Rotterdam Dance Academy could provide the facilities and finances for the practical application of his expertise and methods.
