She could be a sister of the Brothers Grimm. Bridget Breiner's love of storytelling is palpable in every scene of her new version of Dornröschen. The chief choreographer has created a contemporary, fairytale-like parody for her company Ballett am Rhein. The prince is not allowed to awaken the beautiful child with a kiss—it would be an act of transgression.

At the beginning, a boy sits cross-legged in front of the curtain, his elbows propped up, his chin in his hands. A hero, even a prince, slumbers within him, but he must wait almost 100 years.
