Rebecca Amoroso

A truly striking presence: tall, blonde, very young—qualities that cease to matter the moment Rebecca Amoroso begins to dance. She dances with passion and maturity far beyond her 22 years. In fact, the Italian dancer is currently the youngest member of Gauthier Dance at Theaterhaus Stuttgart—a deliberate choice, even though she started out as an intern. That came about when the Pôle National Supérieur de Danse Rosella Hightower (PNSD) sent the student—then nearing the end of her training—out into the world to gain professional experience. It had been a long journey to that point for the young woman from Pavia.

Her parents run a restaurant just outside the city and passed on—at least—a love of cooking to their daughter, whom they enrolled in ballet school at the age of three. Ten years and many displays of talent later, Rebecca found herself at the PNSD in Cannes, despite not speaking a word of French. The first year was challenging; to this day, she remains close with the Italian friends who provided her with a sense of stability and belonging at the school. Just under another ten years later came a first taste of Gauthier Dance—and a spot in the newly founded junior company. It was Eric Gauthier who encouraged her back then and who remains the ideal bosstoday, as Rebecca Amoroso recounts in conversation.

In turn, of course, he secured an immensely talented dancer whose profile—encompassing everything from "pointe shoes to dance socks"—fits his company’s ethos like a glove. Moreover, Rebecca Amoroso is a thoughtful artist who loves her profession without any false idealization. "Home, discipline, vulnerability" are the three key concepts she associates with the dance profession. She is currently working on a solo with Marcia Haydée—the exceptional ballerina who has shaped every role in a deeply personal way. A perfect match!

When, for a change, there is nothing to do, Signora Amoroso pursues her favorite pastime: creating oil-and-essence blends—such as a mixture of eucalyptus and arnica—guaranteed to be beneficial to one's health. And no wonder, for the home-lab enthusiast is herself: the very essence of dance!
