In the history of art, there is hardly a more iconic painting than Leonardo da Vinci’s The Last Supper fresco in the refectory of the Milanese Dominican convent of Santa Maria delle Grazie. Anyone wishing to take it on through dance must be either megalomaniacal or possessed of genius. One is inclined to attribute the latter quality to Lucas Valente and the dance company of the Cottbus State Theatre: Da Vinci, staged in the Kammerbühne venue with a cast of twelve plus, is a study of character and era that sheds light on the Renaissance painter and his times.
