Marco da Silva Ferreira and tanzmainz unleash a frenzy of movement with Sugar Rush
The lights flicker. Nine dancers circle the center of the stage at the Staatstheater Mainz. Their steps land firmly on the floor, their hips swaying ceaselessly. A blend of village and club atmosphere—a beat composed of accordion sounds and ringing bells plays. One dancer, Nora Monsecour, glances over her shoulder at the audience, a look full of promise. Sugar Rush was created by Marco da Silva Ferreira—a former competitive swimmer from Portugal who has been choreographing since 2013 and made a major impact in the German-speaking world with Carcaça and F*cking Future.
