Under Nacho Duato's direction, the Compañía Nacional de Danza (CND) was one of the top companies of the European avant-garde ballet for two decades. After the scandal of his dismissal in 2010, the ensemble, at the request of Spanish cultural policy, took a more conciliatory approach and reintroduced classical music into its program. But heaven forbid that the apparently only viable ballet company on the Iberian Peninsula should retire from the mainstream repertoire—because now, shortly before its 50th anniversary, the CND is taking another turn.
