At the Tanzfestival Saar, Initium, a three-part evening by the Berlin Ballet Company featuring Alexander Abdukarimov, Arshak Ghalumyan, and Oleksandr Shpak, replaced the performance by the Israeli Kamea Dance Company, which was cancelled due to the wars in the Middle East.
The first work, The Curlicues of the Path, traces the twists and turns of life's journey. In images of great atmospheric density, shadowy beings emerge from mystical darkness, interactions of closeness and distance unfold, softly humming music introduces a spherical component, while the performers, to plaintive violin sounds, explore their relationships which revolve around the tension between dominance, freedom, and intimacy.
