Two books, one declaration of love: Mil besos and Ángel Gitano, published in 2009 and 2014, are a photographic tribute to the women and men, artists who enliven flamenco with the fire of their feet and the passion of their hearts — all idiosyncratic creators who the Colombian photographer Ruvén Afanador has immortalized in black and white photographs and sometimes grotesque productions. This in turn inspired the choreographer Marcos Morau to create a high-contrast dance evening with razor-sharp images: Afanador, premiered by the Ballet Nacional de España in 2024, can be admired in the Arte media library until 23 July. Don't miss it, because (the tendentially over-busy) Morau is at his best when he plays with surreal aesthetics, as he does here.
