Once again, it’s time for Choreographer of the Year and once again, the award goes to Marcos Morau: the brilliant fortysomething metteur en scène from Valencia whose career has soared with remarkable speed and unstoppable momentum. His unique, distinctive style of theatre free of self-indulgence yet able to connect powerfully even with a broader general audience. All of his works position themselves within a new symbolic order, in contrast to the mainstream approach; this holds true as much for those created for his Barcelona-based "home" company La Veronal as for the leading European classical ballet, contemporary, and Spanish dance companies that compete for the chance to stage one of his creations.
