Pina Bausch’s Kontakthof revived as a tender duel with time—Meryl Tankard, Salomon Bausch, John Giffin, Anne Martin

Early summer in Berlin. The Tanztheater Wuppertal Pina Bausch has been invited to the Theatertreffen with Kontakthof – Echoes of '78. Meryl Tankard and Salomon Bausch are drinking tea in front of their hotel, near the Berliner Festspiele. Tankard wants to sit in the shade because her skin is sensitive, but the Australian quickly realizes that the sun in Central Europe isn't as aggressive as it is in her homeland. All is well.

It was actually Pina Bausch's idea, wasn’t it, to revive Kontakthof with the dancers from the 1978 premiere?

: Well, Pina said it should be done after 30 years. Now it's been 47 years since the premiere. That's quite different.
