Collectives have the advantage of the moment: Individual performers may often decide what constitutes the strength of an ensemble. But in the end, everything in dance melts together into the flow of a performance—creating a panorama that remains a positive impression. In this regard, five companies stand out in our survey.
Gauthier Dance, based at the Stuttgart Theaterhaus, impressed with Shori Yamamoto, Bruna Andrade, and Gudrun Schretzmeier's costumes for Fireworks and as a company. The same applies to Peeping Tom's Dido and Aeneas in Basel and to Het Nationale Ballet from Amsterdam, where Olga Smirnova and Giorgi Potskhishvili (with performances in Dortmund) were each mentioned twice, along with Jacopo Tissi.
