Robert Rauschenberg
On 22 October, Pop Art pioneer Robert Rauschenberg would have turned 100. Around the globe, he is being commemorated with major exhibition projects. The painter and object artist who died in 2008 was so important for the development of the visual arts that it is impossible to list them all, so let’s just mention a few: The Walker Art Center in Minneapolis is showing a homage to the dance-art collaboration Glacial Decoy by Trisha Brown and Rauschenberg until 24 May 2026; a solo exhibition entitled Robert Rauschenberg's New York: Pictures from the Real World is on display until 19 April at the Museum of the City of New York; and the exhibition Robert Rauschenberg: Life Can't Be Stopped opens at the Guggenheim New York on 10 October. From 3 October to 11 January, the group exhibition Fünf Freunde will run at Cologne's Museum Ludwig, juxtaposing Rauschenberg, John Cage, Merce Cunningham, Jasper Johns, and Cy Twombly. The worthwhile catalog is published by Schirmer/Mosel.
