The Oderbruch in the East of Germany is politically no safe space. Dance artists like Martin Stiefermann and his company MS Schrittmacher are finding that out

He isn't desperate, and he doesn't want to give up yet. Since 2022, Martin Stiefermann, choreographer and prolific inventor of new dance projects, has been traveling in the Oderbruch region with a small team, an association called MS Schrittmacher – Landgang, showing the project Bruchstücke. The sparsely populated, barren, vast landscape on the Oder river near the Polish border undoubtedly falls into the category of "losers of the reuification." Many lost their jobs on farms. Many moved away. There are hardly any kindergartens left in the small villages, no schools, few shopping opportunities, and meager health care.
