This program attempts to capture the fleeting moment, the magical or frightening transition between two familiar states, using the ephemeral art of dance; it unites astonishingly diverse aesthetics in works spanning less than two decades. Shut Eye was created in 2016 for Nederlands Dans Theater and shows Sol León and Paul Lightfoot at the zenith of their choreographic skills: with surreal figures and uncanny projections, shifting in black and white like the pale full moon shining in a narrow room. With an eloquent and masterful style, the duo depicts the moment when consciousness drifts into dreams as we fall asleep—with eight highly diverse figures, grotesque and grimacing, possessed by a goblin and haunted by reflections.
