There were around 1000 applications for seven open positions: Nordhausen's ballet under Ivan Alboresi, who will soon be moving on to Detmold, is making waves. As its first test, the new, only twelve-member ensemble is tackling a contemporary barefoot Giselle. No controversy between nobleman and builder's daughter; Alboresi is interested solely in human behavior: the emotional turmoil of a life-hungry girl, her awakening love for an undecided Albrecht, the intimacy with her childhood friend Hilarion. This shifts the emphasis compared to the original, which Alboresi re-choreographs surprisingly successfully and with exuberant fervor.
