Farewell to the Opera
In Paris, it's a rule without exception: at 42, it's over. All the dancers have to retire, but at least they get a farewell performance as a consolation prize. Yonathan Kellerman's documentary Farewell to the Opera follows not only the final stretch of the two Étoiles, Alice Renavand and Stéphane Bullion, but also the last performances of Aurélia Bellet, who didn't quite reach the top. A multi-faceted portrait that is as fascinating as it is touching—with an epilogue: Alice Renavand has to cut short her final Giselle due to an injury and, exceptionally, is allowed to return to the stage with Béjart's Boléro after her recovery. A triumphant farewell and a wonderful conclusion to this very successful close-up. Available to watch in the Arte media library
