The Hungry Man
Hungarian choreographer Attila Kun has been riding a bumpy road lately which every now and then throws up quite a stumbling block. He nevertheless managed to direct his energies at the stage for his work “Mindegy” (Hungarian for “Whatever …”), performed earlier this year at Budapest’s Trafó House of Contemporary Art. “Whatever …” demonstrated some of the cleanest, tightest and most virtuoso dance movements created by a young contemporary choreographer in Hungary in recent memory.
Attila Kun returned to Hungary three years ago from London to found PR-evolution Dance Company, having previously danced away from his native Budapest to see the world. A classically trained artist, in his late twenties he sold his apartment and forfeited a career at the Hungarian opera in order to connect with modern dance companies in Europe and free himself of his communist-era baggage. His voyage took him knocking on doors in Zurich, Helsinki and Amsterdam, and he was eventually rewarded in London, where he was hired for a three-year stint with the illustrious Rambert Dance Company.
